KINDERGARTEN  INFORMATION

CLASS HOURS:  AM SESSION  8:30 - 11:40 AM

                        PM SESSION  11:50 - 3:00 PM

PERSONAL BELONGINGS:  Label all personal clothing such as coats, hats, mittens, and sweaters.  Label backpack with name also.  Backpacks are recommended as a convenient way to carry folders back and forth to school.

SCHOOL SUPPLIES:  Keep all supplies at home unless requested to send them to school.  Crayons, paper, pencils and scissors are provided at school.  Other supplies such as tissues and glue will be collected the first week of school. Do not put names on these supplies.

PE :  Our physical education classes are held outside.  Children need to dress appropriately.  Please be sure your child dresses himself/herself.  They need practice tying shoes, buttoning, zipping and snapping.  Rubber soled sneakers are best for running. Dress shoes, flip flops, sandals, boots are not permitted in PE.  PE is every day.

TOYS:  Please keep toys at home (this is school policy) unless they are requested for a particular unit of study.  Lost or broken toys can lead to hurt feelings.

PARTY TIME:  We need 2 or more parents to volunteer to plan/organize the 5 social events we experience during the school year.  Our social time is a 45 minute to 1 hour segement of the regular school day.  The 5 events are: 1) Autumn Harvest (Oct. 31)   2) Winter Holidays (on the last day of school before winter break)  3) Valentine's Day (Feb. 14th)  4) Spring Holidays (on the last day before Spring Break) and 5) EOY (on the last FULL day before the end of the school year).  All parents are invited to donate food/craft needs/money for these events.

PAPERS:  Please check for school papers and notes in the backpack EACH day.  Review the papers with your child, encouraging discussion.  Every Tuesday the communication (buddy) folder will come home with PTA notes and news.  Every Monday, the homework folder will come home with the assignments for the week. An additional folder will remain in the backpack as a way to transport daily classwork and teacher notes. RETURN THE FOLDERS AS FOLLOWS:           

           (BUDDY) FOLDER - next school day

           HOMEWORK FOLDER - Friday

           DAILY WORK FOLDER - every day

BOOK CLUB:  Check for the book club newsletter in your child's folder. Checks are preferred over cash.  Please place the order form and payment in an envelope with the words "book club" and your child's name on it.

ALPHABET:  We are using the D'Nealian style of handwriting for all of our writing needs.  Please refer to the D'Nealian handout provided to you at the Open House or write a note requesting one from the teacher.  Refer to this handout to complete all homework assignments.  Only the first letter of a name begins with a capital letter. We write from left to right, and form our letters from top to bottom. Always encourage this method.

ABSENCES/TARDINESS:  A written note explaining your child's absence is required upon returning to school.  If your child is tardy ( after 8:30 for the AM class or 11:50 for the PM class) you must check your child in through the security desk located at the front door of the school building.  The remainder of the school building doors are locked after these times, so please enter through the main lobby doors.

APPOINTMENTS:  To release your child for an appointment you must check them out through the security desk in the main lobby.  You are required to show identification and be on the approved pick-up list.
